Sue (Susan) Lynn Herringshaw 1962 – 2026

Sue (Susan) Lynn Herringshaw, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, peacefully at her home, on June 24, 2026, at the age of 64.

Sue was born on May 31, 1962, in Los Angeles, Calif. She grew up in Santa Ana and graduated from Santiago High School with the Class of 1980. Following graduation, she attended Warner Pacific College in Portland, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education.

While attending college, Sue met the love of her life, David. The two were married on July 21, 1984, beginning a beautiful marriage built on commitment to the Lord and their love for each other.

After college, Sue and David made their home in Eastern Oregon, where Sue combined her passion for children with her gift of teaching by running a preschool daycare for the children of employees of Hoyt & Sons ranches. Their life together took them to the remote villages of Bush, Alaska, where Sue worked providing early childhood education to children in native villages.

In 1993, the couple returned to Burns, where Sue continued serving young children through the Early Childhood Center. Starting out writing and sending out curriculum for the rural “Preschool by Mail” program and eventually stepped into managing the education department of ECC before retiring in 2021.

In 2019, Sue and David moved to St. Maries, Idaho near Black Lake and the Chain Lakes. Surrounded by the beauty of North Idaho, Sue embraced this new season of life, making close friends quickly, continuing to travel back and forth to Burns for work before retirement and after, to stay in touch with close friends as well as provide cleaning services, something she had always done for many people through the years and places she lived. She treasured the peaceful country life, the beauty of God’s creation, and the special place she and David built together.

Sue believed in living life with energy, purpose and joy. She enjoyed staying active and challenged herself by completing countless half marathons, including the Steens Rim Run many times over. She made friends everywhere she went and her life touched all who knew her in profound ways. Whether she was spending time with family or friends, working in her yard, cleaning and organizing, helping at Happy’s Marketplace, or enjoying the quiet beauty of their home, Sue lived each day with kindness, determination, and a servant’s heart.

Above all else, Sue cherished her family. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a proud Gram whose greatest joy was spending time with those she loved.

Sue is lovingly remembered by her husband of nearly 42 years, David Herringshaw; her children, Casey and Nathan Apodaca of Palmer Lake, Colo., Mattie and Aaron Petit of Portland,  and Jesse Herringshaw of St. Maries, Idaho; her mother, Donna Dyer of Santa Ana, Calif.; her siblings, Ray and Lori Campbell of Canby, Ore., Steve and Cheryl Campbell of Vancouver, Wash., Steve and Terri Dyer of Rogers, Ark., and Lynn and Russ Schott of Billings, Mont.; and her three cherished grandchildren, Timothy, Ezra, and Charlotte.

Sue’s gentle spirit, unwavering love for children, adventurous heart, deep devotion to her family, and great faith in the Lord will be remembered always. Though she has left this earthly home for a far greater Glory, the life she built, the love she shared, and the countless lives she touched will continue to be her enduring legacy.

A memorial service will be held Sept. 6, 2026 in Northern Idaho.
