David Richard Clemens 1945 – 2023

David Richard Clemens, son of Betty and Pete Clemens, was born Jan. 12, 1945. He was born at the original Harney County Hospital stone building which still stands on North Egan Street in Burns. David grew up on the family ranch which still exists and remains in extended family hands today.

David attended Burns Grade School, Burns Union High School (graduated 1963) and Oregon State University (graduated 1969).

While in high school, David participated in Hilander Club, was Bard yearbook sports editor, was both football and basketball manager, and a member of the science club. David was also a lifetime Boy Scout member.

At Oregon State University, David was an active member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

During the summer, David worked for the Forest Service and from an early age, for many years, helped his father with the racing activities at the Harney County Rodeo.

After college, David’s primary working career was with U.S. Bank for over 30 years. He also worked at Klamath 1st Federal Bank. He was active with community activities including Kiwanis, Urban Renewal, Census information collecting, and was a Boy Scout leader.

For many years, David served as Chairman of the Finance Committee for Shepherd of the Vally Catholic Church in Central Point, Ore.

David passed on Jan. 4, 2023 in Medford, just eight days before his 78th birthday. He was buried Jan. 21, 2023. Funeral Mass was at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford.

David is survived by his wife, Deborah; his son, Sean; sister, Joanie Henry; lifelong friend, Roger Brown; and extended family and many friends.

Contributions in memory of David Clemens can be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Death Notice

Judith (Judy) M. Castles

Judy passed away in Bend on Jan. 27 at St. Charles Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marvel and Mary Graven.

She leaves behind a sister, Connie Clark of Aloha, Ore; brother, Randy Graven of Spokane Valley, Wash.; and her husband of 46 years, LeRoy Castles.

As per Judy’s wishes, there will be no services.
