The Burns boys high school lacrosse team travelled to West Albany on Friday, March 15, for a non-conference game against the West Albany High School Bulldogs and hung on for an 11-10 victory. “This game should not have been this close, we opened up a nice lead to begin both halves, pulling away and started controlling the game and then, because of silly unforced turnovers and penalties, we lost momentum, letting them back into the game,” said head coach Rick Roy.

Solomon Kennedy led all scorers with six goals, Ely Kennedy scored three goals and had three assists, Alex Trent had a goal and an assist and Lucian Miller had one goal. The team split face-offs with the Bulldogs 13 to 12, and scooped up 29 loose balls to Burns’ 23, and they out shot the team 45 to 22. Tyzon Schultz stopped 15 of 25 shots on goal for a 60 percent save percentage.

Roy said after the game, “Overall, it was a good win for us. West Albany is a 5A school, they dressed 24 players and Burns dressed 15, and as you know, is 3A. In fact, we are the only public 3A to field a stand-alone team. The only other 3A in the league presently with a stand-alone team is the private Oregon Episcopal in Portland.”

Burns has a couple of weeks off before heading to the Portland area to face Forest Grove High School on Friday, April 5, and Hillsboro High School on Saturday, April 6.
