Dorothy George 1937 – 2024

Dorothy George passed away on Feb. 13, 2024, in Redmond, after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was 86.

She was born June 23, 1937, in San Jose, Calif. She was the youngest of three children born to Giovannni Battista Grimaldi and Onorina Gagliasso. They had immigrated to the U.S. in 1929.

Dorothy attended Catholic school in San Jose and worked to pay part of her tuition. After high school she studied and trained to become a dental assistant. She met the love of her life, Gary George in the office where she was later employed. They were married on Sept. 9, 1961.

They have two sons, Ron and Rick and two grandchildren, Hannah and Tyler, all of Redmond.

Shortly after their marriage, Dorothy and Gary moved to Lincoln, Neb., to follow Gary’s career. Dorothy worked several part-time jobs to help support her growing family.

They moved to Burns in 1973 with their two young boys to begin a new chapter. Dorothy worked for Harney County Circuit Court and became the Court Administrator. They spent 30 years in Burns, enjoying the many outdoor activities available in the area. In 2003, they moved to Redmond, to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

After retirement, Dorothy and Gary spent many winters escaping to Baja, Mexico, and Arizona. She had an active, adventurous life riding her ATV, personal watercraft, and as a passenger on many of Gary’s motorcycles.

Dorothy took great pride in her home and loved to decorate with the changing seasons and holidays. She supported her sons growing up when they were actively involved in motorcycle racing and other sports.

Like her mother, she always put others before herself. She volunteered in her community with Hospice, Harney County Historical Society, and the local Catholic Church in Redmond.

She brought joy and happiness to her many friends where ever she was. Her good spirits and laughter will be missed by many.
