Beverly Sunderlin prepares to chip onto hole-9. A total of 31, two-person teams competed in the High Desert Couples Tournament at the Valley Golf Club, July 16-17. Couples played a Chapman Format tournament, vying for the top two gross and net scores in three flights. Added money from several local sponsors boosted the payout. Sponsors included Ed Staub & Sons, Safeway, The Pine Room, Robbins Equipment, Clearwater Pump and Irrigation, and Cowan Land Company. The weekend also included a blind draw Chapman on Friday, long-drive contests, closest to the pin contests, prize drawings for more than 60 donated items, 50/50 pots, Saturday dinner, and an off-hand chipping contest.
